John W. “Jack” Burris, age 90, Albany, died Monday November 6, 2017 at home following a brief illness. Born in Albany on June 17, 1927, he was the son of Fred & Virginia (Strong) Burris. He attended Albany High School and joined the United States Navy during World War II. He was a forest ranger in California during the 1950’s. He also enjoyed horses and traveling. Jack was a tool & die maker for General Motors, working there forty years before retiring. Up until the age of 85 he worked with and transported Amish crews as well as doing construction work. He also farmed in Delaware & Jay County. He enjoyed carpentry and living a life of adventure. Jack was a 50 year member of Anthony Lodge No. 171, F. & A.M. and belonged to Scottish Rite Valley of Ft. Wayne, and GM Sympathy Club.

Survivors include his children: Suzan Powers (husband: Jim), Muncie, Judy Woodard (husband: Bruce), Muncie, John A. Burris, Muncie, and Cindy Neal (husband: Jamie), Eaton; three grandchildren: Mike Callow, Katie Neal, and Parris Woodard; also, five great-grandchildren: Conner, Maci, Molly, Daisy, and Wyatt.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Frederick Burris; two sisters: Betty Martin and Florence Grimes, and a grandson: Brent Woodard.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2017 at Meacham Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with military rites provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 12 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
