Gregory Peter Simmons, 71, passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 3, 2017. Son of the late Claude and Emma (Murphy) Simmons, Gregory was born and raised in Taunton, MA.

He was a 1964 graduate of Taunton Vocational School, Gregory served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War and with the Army Reserves during the Gulf War. He was a high voltage lineman for the City of Taunton, retiring in 2000 after 32 years. Greg was a proud member of the American Legion Post # 121 of Berkley, MA serving in the past as Sergeant of Arms. He spent his summers camping in Bourne, MA, enjoyed hunting from the family cabin in Maine and was a member of the Taunton Boat Club. Most of all he cherished the time he spent with his family.

Survivors include a daughter, Stacy L. Simmons of East Taunton; two sons, Todd G. Simmons and his girlfriend Kathryn Kauffman of Austin, Texas and Aaron C. Simmons and his wife Cheryl of Middleboro, MA; two grandchildren Benjamin and Olivia; one sister, Shirley Ferreira of Middleboro, MA; five brothers, Frederick, Paul, Leo, Claude Jr., and Francis Simmons all of Taunton; his longtime companion Mary Vargas of Taunton; and many nieces and nephews. He was the former husband of the late Norma Simmons and was brother to the late Robert, Edward, Russel, and George Simmons.

Calling hours will be held in the Crapo Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave, Taunton, MA. A graveside service with military honors will take place in the MA National Cemetery, Bourne, MA
