Born February 10, 1926 in Sunny View, NC, Frances graduated from Sunny View High School as the class Valedictorian. Upon graduation, she traveled to Washington, DC to work for the FBI and married Jack Coleman Dempsey who was in the Air Force. Several years later, she returned to Sunny View and lived in the Haynes home where she later married James Russell Jenkins who was also an Air Force Veteran. There she raised three daughters and one son. Frances worked until retirement from Stonecutter Mills at age 72.
Frances’ joy in life was spending time with her family, attending her nephew Warren Haynes’ concerts, and shopping. She had the gift of encouragement and loved to help those in need.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Russell Jenkins. She is survived by her daughters, Paula Dempsey Corbett (David) of Spartanburg, SC; Charis Dempsey Jolliffe (Mark) of Spartanburg, SC; and Billie Dempsey Gaskins (Ralph) of New Bern, NC. She was predeceased by her son John Russell Jenkins (Rusty). She also leaves behind her brother, Edward Haynes of Asheville, NC and predeceased by her sister Pauline Haynes Lautier of Weaverville, NC.
Frances was blessed with eleven grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service conducted by the Rev. Jesse Sprinkle, will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 4:00pm at Coopers Gap Baptist Church in Sunny View, NC. The family will be at the home of Frances Haynes Jenkins, 6689 NC 9 North Hwy, Sunny View, NC, on Wednesday from 11am to 2pm.
