Gary Dean Loofboro, 62, of Belvidere passed away March 14, 2014, surrounded by his family after a sudden illness. He was born August 29, 1951, in Rockford and lived most of his life in Belvidere. Gary was the son of Elmer and Edna (Crimmins) Loofboro. He graduated from Belvidere High School in 1970 and married Stephanie (Kokenes) on August 27, 1970. Gary served in the Army Reserves as a heavy equipment operator with the Army Engineers. He worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Boone County Sheriff's Department for 30 years retiring in 2004. During his law enforcement career, he was a patrol officer, detective, OIC and an investigator assigned to the Northern Illinois Auto Theft Task Force. After retiring, Gary worked full-time as a security officer for Candlewick Lake. Gary was an avid Bears and Nascar fan, enjoyed deer hunting and spending time with his family, especially playing dress-up and dollies with his granddaughter, Emmaline.

Gary is survived by wife, Stephanie; son, Jarret (Heidi), future twin grandchildren Eli and Savannah; daughter, Jana; granddaughter, Emmaline Muchala; mother, Edna; brothers, Leslie and Robbie (Sandy Cayler); sisters, Vivian (Robert) Hendricks and Vickey (Richard) Gummerus. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Elmer, and good friend, Bob Fair.

A Memorial Visitation will be Saturday, March 22, 2014, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Belvidere First Assembly of God Church, 1105 7th Avenue, Belvidere, with Memorial Service immediately following. Pastor Dale Anderson will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for Gary's grandchildren's college education fund.

Gravesite Details

Cremated remains were given to the family. Upon his wife's passing, Gary and his wife are to be interred in an indoor glass cremation niche located inside the back mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Machesney Park, Illinois.
