Wayne S. Hoffman, 75, passed away Friday, November 03, 2017 at Baptist Hospital Gulf Breeze, Florida. Wayne was born May 21, 1942 to Gerhart and Lorraine (Smillie) Hoffman in Highland Park, Michigan, the older of 2 children. He graduated from Dixie Holland High School in 1960.
Wayne served 22 years in the United States Navy as Chief Machinery Repairman. While stationed in Los Angeles, CA, he met his future bride, Carol Ann Wainwright, and married in 1963 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
Retiring in 1982 from active duty in Pensacola, FL he continued his government career as a civil servant for the Department of the Navy at NADEP and the Department of Air Force at Little Rock AFB until retiring once again back to Pensacola in 2004. During his Naval and Civil Service career they made many long term friends. Wayne was a Sailor through and through, he loved playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a long time member of Redeemer Lutheran Church with a dedicated church family.
Wayne is preceded in death by his Parents, Gerhart and Lorraine Hoffman and Son, Ronald Hoffman.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 54 years Carol Ann; son Dan (Sheri) Hoffman; Daughter-in-law Denise Hoffman; grandchildren, Joshua Hoffman, Nicole Hoffman, and Colby Hoffman; sister Janet (Jim) Read. He was also blessed with a wonderful extended family; Bill and Brenda Payne, Peggy Stagner, Geri (Gigi) Castro, Jerry Sanders, Steve and Rose Anne Stoke, Steven Stokes and David Stokes.
Funeral service will be graveside at Barrancas National Cemetery on Wednesday, Nov 8, 2017 at 1:00 with Pastors Christopher Cole and Robert Rupp officiating (Procession will leave Oak Lawn at 12:30 – all guests are asked to be present by 12:15) . The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, Pensacola, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran School, Pensacola, FL or the USO.
