May Horel, Pioneer, Called By Death

Funeral services will be held for Mrs. May Horel Friday afternoon at St. John's Episcopal Church at two o'clock. Rev. E. C. Dickin will officiate. Burial will be in the Elliott Cemetery at Wilson.

Mrs. Horel had been a patient at St. John's hospital for some time. She was apparently recovering from a severe attack of pneumonia, when death came from a sudden heart attack.

May P. Horel was born at Klicka Tat (sic), Washington, August 9, 1883. She passed away at St. John's hospital Jan. 31, 1961 at the age of 77 years.

She was the daughter of Samuel Harrison and Mary Bartlett Canfield. She attended school at Burns, Oregon and later at Weiser, Idaho. In 1900 at Van Wycke, Idaho, she was married to Bird Basye and to this union were born four children: Ivan E., Frank D., and Marjorie Kranenberg, and Wallace who preceded her in death at the age of four years.

In 1914 she came to Jackson, Wyoming to make her home. She met and married Dr. Horel, dentist, in August of that year. They moved to the Ranger station at what is known as Old Teeton Park Headquarters. She homesteaded on Cottonwood bottoms. In 1928 she sold her ranch to Snake River Land Co. She spent about two years in the upper country, later moving to Jackson, where she has since made her home.

She loved to go to town and visit with young and old. This was a great pastime for her and she will be greatly missed by her friends.

Surviving her are three children, Ivan E. and Marjorie Kranenberg of Jackson, and Frank D. of the Philippine Islands, thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and one brother, Robert Canfield.
