William Fred Paulsen passed away on 9/18/2017. From Eagle Scout to award winning scholar, Bill was among the best at whatever he attempted. In college, on a full scholarship, he was president of his fraternity, Tau Beta Pi, and tapped for the Scull fraternity. In 1941 he earned a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from Worchester Polytechnic.

Bill spent five years in the Navy during WWII, two of them supervising repairs on war ships at Pearl Harbor. The Navy sent him to the Naval Academy and to Cal Tech. He left as Lt Commander to pursue a lengthy career at the DuPont Company.

At DuPont he received patents for his work in nylon & in the development of Dacron, polyester. His singular skills led him to be chosen to lead the committee for building and establishing the world's first manufacturing plant for polyester fibers, in Kinston, NC. DuPont honored Bill's outstanding 37 years of service with the designation of the company's first "Fellow of Fibers."

He married Frances W. Trowbridge of West Springfield, MA in 1944. After her death in 1962, he married Virginia Turley Moseley of Kinston, NC in 1969.

Surviving him are his wife Virginia, three sons, William, George and Robert, as well as three stepchildren; Nancy, John, and Marian Moseley, and many grand and great-grandchildren.

His ashes will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
