Born in St. Polycarpe, son of Jacque Laboursoliere and Angelique Henault Deschamps.

Married Margaret Levac/Levesque 10 Jun 1847 at St. Ignace Church, Coteau-du-Lac. His wife and children generally did not use the Laboursoliere name, with some exceptions.

Emigrated around 1865 to the United States, where he lived in Ogdensburg, New York, a village on the St. Lawrence River, and went by Albert Needle.

No death notice has been found, so it is not known (thus far) whether he died in New York or across the border. Parish burial record states "On January 27, 1883, we, the undersigned, vicar of the parish, interred in the cemetery on our grounds the body of Albert Laboursoliere, day-laborer, deceased yesterday, aged 64, spouse of M. Levac, of Saint-Zotique parish." Others present were sons Jean-Baptiste and Alfred Laboursoliere of Ogdensburg.

About the family name:

The original French family surname was Laboursoliere or Laboursaudiere, with varioius spelling variations. In centuries past, the French often used a "dit name" - an appendage to the surname, used to differentiate, one from the other, people with the same name. The "dit name" was often determined by a geographical landmark near the man's home, or by man's trade or occupation (John Smith Tailor, John Smith Tanner, etc.). This particular line of the family was sometimes referred to as Laboursoliere dit Leguille, as seen in early baptism records. In English, Leguille (pronounced, roughly, "LeGwee") means needle.
