ONLINE OBITUARIES

Jean Ellen Robbins, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in the Extended Care Center of Clarewood House in Houston. Jean had struggled with several chronic health issues in the recent years. She dealt with those challenges with dignity and bravery. She was a very caring and gentle soul.

Jean was born on August 11, 1934 to Leo and Verda Shilling in Canton, Ohio. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert Robbins, her eldest son Jeff Robbins and his wife Linda and their children Justin and Lauren, her daughter Kay McNair and her husband Danny, her granddaughter Ellen Jean Robbins who is the daughter of her late son, Todd Robbins. She is also survived by her brother, Edward Shilling, his wife Adalyn and their children Loretta, Marilyn and Gretchen.

After living in Ohio for a number of years the family moved to Cape Coral, Florida to be close to Jean’s parents who had retired there several years earlier. Their next journey took them to Texas where they eventually settled in Houston, the city that they have called home for the past 50 years.

Jean went to work for Baker Hughes in the Human Resource Department. This is where she met her lifelong friend, Bert. She spent the next 23 years with the company.

Above all, Jean loved her children unconditionally as well as the many pets that entered their home over the years. Her last dog, Lola, a rescue, was such a comfort to her the last 2 years. Lola often visited with her in Clarewood House and had celebrity status among the other residents and staff.

Jean loved to travel. As a young woman she travelled with her mother. Kay took over the role as her travel guide later in life. Together, they enjoyed numerous adventures to Mexico, Jamaica and Hawaii. In February 2015 she and Kay took off driving across the southern United States to celebrate Jean’s 80th Kay’s 60th birthdays. With Lola as navigator, they eventually made it all the way to Key West, Florida. They encountered bed bugs, nasty storms and angry roosters but they did not detract from the 3000 miles of fun.

Jean’s other loves included basketball, rock n’ roll, and lobster-not necessarily in that order!

The family would like to thank the staff of Clarewood House for their compassion and caring. It was a comfort to have her in a familiar place with supportive people during her final days.
