U.S. Congressman. Moving to Iowa, in 1929, he graduated from Graceland College, in 1934, University of Iowa in 1937 and the University of Iowa Law College, in 1939. He was admitted to the bar, practiced law in Leon, Iowa and was the Decatur County Attorney, (1940-43). During World War II, he served as a U.S. Navy supply officer in the South Pacific Theatre. After the war, he served as Leon City Attorney, (1946-48). In 1959, he was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-sixth Congress and served until his death from cancer at age 44.
