Carolyn Sue Yates, 74, of North Vernon passed away on Monday, October 30, 2017 at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.

Born July 4, 1943 in Jennings County, Mrs. Yates was the daughter of the late Harold Raymond Taylor and Gladys Riley. She married Fred Yates on November 22, 1962 in North Vernon. He survives.

Mrs. Yates was a 1961 graduate of North Vernon High School and was a babysitter for 40 plus years. She was a former Sunday School Teacher and member of Harms Street Church of Christ in North Vernon. Mrs. Yates enjoyed sewing, gardening, flowers, cats and cooking.

Surviving with her husband Fred are daughters, Carla (John) Alcorn of North Vernon and Tamara (Richard) Harris of Columbus; brothers, Don Taylor and Gayle (Sheila) Taylor both of North Vernon; sisters, Beverly Marie Taylor and Anita Marie (Tim) Lesnet both of Columbus; grandchildren, Heather (Ryan Eder) Abrell, Kayla (Jason) Booker, Abby Alcorn, and Chase Booker all of North Vernon, Joshua Harris of Columbus and Jonathon Alcorn of Shelbyville; four great-grandchildren, Hayden Alcorn of Seymour, Leah and Lucas Eder and Maddilyn Alcorn all of North Vernon; niece, Karen (Chris) Hiatt and nephew, Dakota Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a nephew, Steve Taylor.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with Brother Jack Oliver, Brother Lawrence Mikesell and Rev. Caleb Reynolds officiating. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, November 3, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Mercy Rescue and Adoption Inc. or American Diabetes Association.
