Insa Sternberg Abraham, died on May 14. A kind, gentle-hearted, and dedicated daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, Insa was born in Aurich, Germany in 1930. In 1936, with her mother and two brothers, she fled Nazi Germany to reunite with her father, who would purchase the Goudchaux's department store in Baton Rouge. She always remained proud of her Jewish heritage and American citizenship. Insa graduated as salutatorian from Baton Rouge High and went on to receive degrees from Stephens College and LSU, followed by an MBA from Tulane University. She enjoyed being an ambassador for Goudchaux's, talking to customers, making them feel welcome, and supporting the store with her mother, Lea. She was PTA President at University High and an active member of Congregation B'Nai Israel and its sisterhood. Nothing brought Insa more joy than spending time with her loved ones, especially traveling with family and friends. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She played a mean game of bridge and always had a Danielle Steel book on her side table. She was fond of LSU football games and the Baton Rouge symphony-she enjoyed everything about her chosen hometown. Insa greeted everyone with a warm smile and a listening ear, always making you feel like your visit was the highlight of her day. You couldn't leave her house without being offered unlimited pieces of chocolate, her favorite food. Insa, known as Aya by many who loved her, could light up a room with her laugh. She was the kindest and most loyal friend.

Insa was preceded in death by her cherished parents, Lea and Erich Sternberg; her loving husband of 57 years, Dr. Leo Abraham; an infant daughter; and her brother, Josef Sternberg.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Leigh Ann and Don Weinbren and Dr. Eric and Patty Abraham; grandchildren, Nathan and Rachel Weinbren, and Leo Abraham; and her brother and sisters-in-law, Hans, Donna, and Mary Ann Sternberg.

Her family will attend a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Congregation B'Nai Israel, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, or a charity of your choice
