Major League Baseball Player, Manager. Born Orlando (Oliva) Martinez in Havana, Cuba. He was an infielder for seven seasons (1962, 1967 to 1972) with the Minnesota Twins, Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals, Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers. After retiring as a player, Martinez was a coach for four seasons (1984 to 1986, 1992) and served as interim manager of the Seattle Mariners in 1986. He also worked as a scout for the Mariners and managed in the Texas League. In 436 career games as a MLB player, Martinez had 230 hits with a .243 lifetime batting average.
