Julia Ann Mohr
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully at home in Provo, Utah surrounded by her family on November 1, 2017 from liver failure. Julia Ann Magleby Peterson Mohr, 69, was born in Richfield, Utah on November 16, 1947 to Neal S. and Chrystal Gray Magleby. She married George "Bud" Vernon Peterson, Jr. on February 24, 1968 in the Manti, Utah LDS Temple; they later divorced. She married Robert Carl Mohr, MD on December 26, 1995. The marriage was solemnized in the Bountiful, Utah LDS Temple on November 16, 2012. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2010.
Julia graduated from Richfield High School in 1966 and attended Brigham Young University on a scholarship where she earned her Bachelor's of Science in Home Economics/ Family Studies and received the Betty Crocker Homemaker of the Year Award. In 1977 she and Bud moved back to their hometown of Richfield to raise their family. Julia loved to care for children and in 1979 she founded Rainbow Preschool and Daycare. Seeing and nurturing potential in others is a gift Julia gave freely to her children, grandchildren and to the hundreds of children she taught for over two decades. After many years of caring directly for children, Julia transitioned her career to teaching and training daycare providers. In 2001 she became the director of the Care About Childcare program at Utah Valley University in Orem where she worked until her retirement earlier this year.
Julia led a life of service to her church and community, inspired by her older brother Mac Neal. She was an outstanding leader who provided 52 years of service in over 20 leadership roles during her lifetime and was the first recipient of the Richfield City Women of Achievement Award in 2001. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served as the Richfield East Stake Primary President for 7 years. She served her community with leadership roles in junior high and high school, 4-H, the Library Board, Bookmobile, Historical Society, Diabetes Association, Independence Day Incorporated (IDI) Committee and Cub Scouts.
Julia was deeply patriotic and during her time on the Richfield IDI Committee, she organized 14 patriotic programs and extended the children's parade to include all children from every faith. In honor of her brother, she created the Mac Neal Magleby Service Award and was honored as the recipient in 2004. Julia had a passion for Cub Scouts and served in many leadership positions in the Fishlake District. She was the VP for the Utah National Parks Council where she oversaw the largest program of Cub Scouts in the nation. She was recognized for her lifelong efforts in scouting with 4 recognitions including the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award in the Council.
Julia's greatest love and joy was her family. She was proud of her family and of receiving the 4-H Family of the Year Award. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her capacity to love and care for each of them was beyond measure. She spent countless hours creating family gatherings, attending special occasions and always found ways to nurture and support each family member.
Julia had a remarkable ability to befriend people and she made everyone who came into her life feel special. She leaves a legacy in the lives of all of those who were positively influenced by her life of loving service.
Julia is survived by her children: Elisa (Les) Patterson, Hyde Park; Marianne (Lorne) Knutson, Lino Lakes, MN; Suzanne (Lance) Olson, Tooele; George (Rachel) Peterson, Woods Cross; Lars (Ann) Peterson, Georgetown, KY; Laura (Christopher) Schear, Spanish Fork; her stepchildren: Jeffrey (Ann) Mohr, Erda; Richard (Elizabeth) Mohr, McAllister, MT; Alexander (Alison) Mohr, Houston, TX; Nicole (Derk) Hopkins Mohr, Salt Lake City; 23 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; her siblings: Alma (Gwen) Magleby, Richfield; Mary Nebeker, Brigham City. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Mac Neal Magleby; grandson, Eugene Gray Peterson; and stepson, Robert Brad Mohr.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Edgemont 11th Ward Chapel, 3050 Mojave Lane, Provo. Julia has requested that family and friends serving in the military or in Scouts attend in their uniforms.
