Austin Honeycutt married Susan Ann Mixon about 1837 or 1838, and they lived near his family in southern Union Parish until her death on 7 May 1860. He remarried within a few months to Susan Wells, apparently the daughter of Abner Wells and the sister to William C. Wells, who married Austin's daughter, Emma Eliza, in 1868.
Austin Honeycutt moved with his younger children and wife to Morehouse Parish in the latter 1860s, and he lived there in 1870, but he returned to the Downsville region in the 1870s. He died of pneumonia in August 1879.
It is not known precisely where Austin Honeycutt is buried, but considering the number of his children buried at Mount Nebo Cemetery, it is believed he is buried there.
