Doris L. Coleman of Manvel, Texas, passed away on Friday morning, Oct. 27, 2017. She spent her last days at a nursing home in Alvin, Texas.

Doris was born and raised in eastern Iowa. She went to nursing school at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, where she met her husband, Bill Coleman. She worked as a registered nurse for 44 years before retiring to spend more time with her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing and gardening in her later years, and was known as the Rose Lady in her neighborhood of Leedy Estates, as she was often seen working in her garden and growing roses all around her home.

Doris was preceded in death by her father, Elmer McDonald; her mother, Beatrice E. McDonald; her sister, Sherilee Rae Smith, all of Malcom, Iowa; and her husband, Bill Coleman, of Manvel, Texas. Doris is mourned in death by her four children, Dell (Barbara) Coleman, Ruth Coleman, Ira (Dana) Coleman and David (Patty) Coleman; her grandchildren, Mark Coleman, Darin (Kristy) Rigby, Elizabeth (Andy) Green, Tina (Casey) Cary, Chris Coleman, Sharon (Eric) Cohan; and several great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, 9:30 a.m, at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet St., Houston, Texas, with Rabbi Pam Silk officiating.
