Jean graduated from Santa Barbara High School in California. She continued her education receiving her cosmetology license at The University of Texas Extension Service and stylist diploma at the Burham School of Stylist in Chicago. After relocating to Brownsville, Texas, she joined her mother in her Hollywood Beauty Shop. Jean later purchased the Southland Beauty Shop in Harlingen. Jean was active in the Brownsville Business and Professional Women’s Club, the Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
Jean traveled abroad and captured and shared many adventures through photographs. She enjoyed an active social life, and frequently crossed the river to dance in Matamoros. Those who knew her described her as spirited, fun-loving, with a great sense of humor.
Following retirement, Jean relocated to Northway Landing in Nacogdoches. While at Northway, she established endearing friendships with other residents, including, Maurine Sachtleben and Pyrtle Teutsch. These ladies took pleasure in each other’s company while sitting in Northway’s gazebo with their little dogs. Jean was predeceased by her friends at Northway.
Jean was a lifelong Methodist.
Although Jean has no surviving relatives, she is survived by loving and caring friends; James Sachtleben, Rosemary Sullivan, Vi Alexander, Diane Bobo, and Dale and Joanne Waring.
The Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana is entrusted with arrangements. Graveside service will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, November 6th at the Hamilton Beeman Cemetery in Corsicana.
