John was born to Earl Randolph & Mary (Blum) McCullough.
He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School with the Class of 1943.
After high school he worked for the Burlington Railroad as a fireman and eventually retired as an engineer, after 25 years of service. He proudly served in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge.
John was a member of the independent Order of Odd Fellows, he served as the Grand Musician of Iowa for 28 years and Sovereign Grand Musician of the World for 4 years. This allowed John and wife Kay to travel around the U.S. and Canada. He played piano at Broadway Christmas Church and at numerous other facilities in the area. He love of music enriched his family for many years.
