Divorced on November 17, 1976∼Carolyn Ulmer Hiers, of Walterboro, departed this life on the evening of May 13, 2011, after an extended illness.
Born in Colleton County March 8, 1942m she was the daughter of the late Palmer Lawson Ulmer and Catherine Inez Breland Ulmer.
Carolyn was known throughout the Lowcountry…and even the state of South Carolina…as a fixture at the local lodge #1988 in Walterboro. She began her career as the lodge bartender and eventually retired after 23 years of service as its general manager. Her life centered around the lodge and she truly exemplified the Elks motto…"Elks Care…Elks Share." She will truly be missed by all.
She is survived by four sons, Rodney Hiers of Colorado, Kerry Hiers of North Charleston, Rick Hiers of Summerville, and Shane Hiers of Walterboro; brother, Henry Ulmer of Walterboro; sister, Mildred Cricket Olaski, of Ocala, FL; fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
