William Edward Teer was born to William W. and Mary E. Teer in the Fort Jackson Army Hospital, Columbia, South Carolina.
Although he grew up in West Columbia, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in Macon, Georgia, on 09 Nov 1964.
On 13 Sep 1966, while serving with E Company, 2nd Bn, 9th Marines, LCpl Teer failed to respond to a sentry's challenge and was shot.
His body was returned to Columbia for burial. The Thompson Funeral Home handled the funeral, with the service in Saint Peter's Roman Catholic Church on Assembly Street.
Burial was Saint Peters Cemetery on Elmwood Avenue, where his grave is marked with a flat marble military stone.
In addition to his parents, LCpl Teer was survived by a sister, Shirley Ann, and a brother, Ronald Wiley, both at home.
