Marvin Lee Barnes, 74, of Acworth, Georgia passed away on Saturday October 14, 2017 in Milledgeville, Georgia.

A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Marvin joined The United States Marines, attended the University of Georgia, and graduated with a degree in Forestry. He later attended the University of Florida and earned a Master’s degree in Agriculture. For a while, he worked in the field of agriculture and timber management, which suited him well. Marvin was an avid lover of gardening. He could often be found outside in the dirt, growing and tending to his masterful garden. After returning to Georgia, Marvin developed a new love of square dancing. He would whirl around the dance floor with several dance groups including The Wheel Arounds among others. He received hours of pleasure in socializing with his newfound square dancing compadres.

Marvin is survived by a daughter, Kelli Barnes and a son, Jonathan “Lee” Barnes. He will be forever remembered by his siblings and their families, Emory and Paula Barnes, Harold and Pollyanne Barnes and their families. Marvin will be missed by step-family Gwendolyn and Gerald Jennings, Elizabeth Jennings, Leisa Creel and Dewight Cannon. Marvin was predeceased by his loving parents, Mary Francis (Mathis) & Emory Lester Barnes, his son Jimmy Barnes, second wife Sybil (Chester) Barnes and his brother Tilden Barnes.
