James McNeill died at the home of his son George in Fonda Friday, of softening of the brain, aged 68 years.

Mr. McNeill was well known in this vicinity.

Between 1850 and 1860, he kept a hotel at Charleston and ran a stage route from Canajoharle to Schoharie.

In 1861, he removed to Fonda and conducted the old Franklin hotel for three or four years. He then had charge of the Fonda hotel for several years and afterwards kept the hotel at Broadalbin.

During the past seven years he has made his home most of the time with his son Brazill McNeill, Amsterdam.

In politics he was a lifelong and very ardent Democrat.
