Barbara A. (Lynch) Callahan, 78, of 11 Upper Highland Rd., Charlestown, died peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 at Pine Grove Nursing Center in Pascoag, after a courageous battle with ALS. She was the beloved wife of John P. Callahan, Sr.
Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on April 14, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice (Helm) Lynch.
Barbara was an accomplished artist and taught art from her studio in South Windsor, Conn. for many years. She also was an antique dealer while living in South Windsor, Conn.
Besides her loving and devoted husband of over 61 years, she will be sadly missed by her children, Christine Dewlin (William), of Punta Gorda, Fla., Kenneth Callahan (Cindy), of West Burke, Vt., Gloria Frenette (Jim), of Hopkinton, John P. Callahan, Jr., of Westerly, Christopher M. Callahan, of Enfield, Conn., Margaret M. Barry (Dirk), of South Windsor, Conn., and Kevin P. Callahan, of Glastonbury, Conn. She was the loving grandmother of 14; and great-grandmother of two.
Barbara's funeral will be held at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly at 9:45 a.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 5, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Pius X. Church, 44 Elm St., Westerly at 11 a.m. Burial will be in River Bend Cemetery, Beach St., Westerly.
The Callahan family would like to thank everyone at the Pine Grove Health Center for their love and kindness shown to them and Barbara during the past several years.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the ALS Association, Rhode Island Chapter, 2374 Post Rd, Number 103, Warwick, RI 02866.
