102 Squadron's Handley Page Halifax Mk II (#DT539) aircraft, with an aircrew of eight, took off from RAF Pockington on a bombing operation over Hamburg, Germany; the Halifax was hit by flak over Harlingen, the Netherlands, crashing at Oosterend, on the Netherlands' Island of Texel claiming the lives of the entire crew.

He is also commemorated by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
