Hawker Hurricane Mk I P3361 AK-D of No.213 (Ceylon) Sqn piloted by F/O William Napier Gray (40108) aged 22 took off from Manston at 12.00hrs. F/O Gray was shot down by a Bf 109 of III./JG 26 at 14.40hrs and crashed into the North Sea near Dunkirk, pilot killed. This was one of five 213 Sqn Hurricanes lost in combat in the Dunkirk area on this day. His body washed up on 17th August 1940.
