GIRARD — James D. Arrowood, 77, of Girard, passed away Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born Feb. 15, 1940, in Mineral Ridge, the son of Jesse and Dora Arrowood.

Jim was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He worked for over 30 years for P.I.&I., where he drove truck. He was a member of the Warren Revival Church in Leavittsburg.

He enjoyed going to the car races, playing cards and going out to dinner with his friend, Betty Mae; he was also known to sneak his great-grandchildren money for ice cream, donuts and dirt bike parts.

Survivors include his children, Robert (Sue) Arrowood and Marsha (Bob) Shelley; stepchildren, Patricia (Mike) Fizet, Sandra (Mitch) Cappers, Nancy Grega and Junior (Mary Jo) Nicholson; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, John, Becky, Josephine, Ruby, Betty Lou and Francis.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Martha R. Beckett, whom he married on Feb. 17, 1963, and who died on Nov. 30, 2002; and his sisters and brother, Dixie, Mary Lee, Beatrice and Cletus.

Friends will be received 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel, where services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, with the Rev. James Holbrook officiating. Burial will take place at the Girard City Cemetery.
