Theresa Cornelia Morgan, age 80, passed away Saturday, October 21, at Ft. Sanders Hospital. Theresa moved to Knoxville in 1950 and attended Austin High School; Knoxville College; and the University of Tennessee, where she earned her Masters and Specialist degrees. With a desire to help others, she first considered nursing but chose to teach English instead, spending 30 years of her 40-year career at Central High School. Her dedication to education continued through her annual donation to Central High's scholarship fund. She was a long-time member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. With a beautiful soprano voice, she sang in the church choir and the Martin Luther King Celebration Choir. A loving sister, generous aunt, and gracious hostess, Theresa enjoyed entertaining and cooking for family and friends. Her wonderful sense of humor and radiant smile will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Enoch Frederick Morgan and Martha Bigby Morgan; Theresa was also preceded in death by her grandparents George and Susie Bigby, aunts, Mary Bigby Reese, Willie Bigby Brandenberg, Eudenia Bigby Paul, Bessie Bigby Hollmon, Margaret Bigby Jackson and Emma Lee Bigby, uncles, Marshall Bigby, Ross (Lucille) Bigby, and Bill Bigby; cousins, Leroy (Jeanette) Brandemberg, Calvin (Alma) Bigby, Alma Woodard, Sadie Bigby, Virginia Bigby Davis and, Mozel Brandenberg Roper .Survivors are her loving and devoted sister Dr. Jean A. Morgan-Harper; brother Frederick Morgan Jr.; aunt Ethel Morgan; nieces Erika Harper Lopez, Kristi B. Harper, Enisha Morgan, Marsena Cathcart; nephews: Deandre Dunham, David Johnson, Enoch Morgan, Theron Washington, Demetrius Webster; several great nieces and nephews; one great-great nephew; several cousins and many friends. Theresa considered Howard Chandler not only a good friend but also a son. Gratitude goes to her caregivers: Jimmy Duncan, Joan Simon, and Vivian Williams.

Saturday, October 28, 2017, the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with service to follow at Mount Zion Baptist Church at 2714 Brooks Avenue, Knoxville, TN. Reverend Dr. Johnnie W. Skinner, Sr. officiating. An entombment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens where a white dove release will conclude the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the scholarship fund of Central High School, Knoxville "In Memoriam of Theresa C. Morgan."
