Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Germany, he served as a Private in Company C, 14th New York US Artillery. In actions with Confederate forces at Fredericksburg, Virginia on December 13, 1862, Private Schubert picked up the colors after several bearers had been killed or wounded and carried them until he was wounded. For courage in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Medal of Honor and later achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

By 1908, Martin and Ida divorced.

May 25th, 1908, in Clayton, Missouri, Martin married Philippine Zimmermanne (she was born C. 1860).

The 1910, U.S. Census listed Martin and Philippine as living in Saint Louis, Missouri.

The 1920, U.S. Census listed Philippine Schubert as widowed and living in San Diego. I could find no further records related to her.
