Stella Prairie, life-long resident of the Massena area, passed away on October 29, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. Friends and family may be received on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 noon at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena, with Sonya Boyce presiding. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery, following the services.
Stella was born in Massena on July 16, 1930 to Felix Abbrid and Anna Mateio. She graduated from Massena High School in 1948 and married Richard Prairie on August 11, 1949. They had three daughters.
Stella is survived by her daughters, Cathy Michael (George Michael), Judy Markell (Ronnie Markell), and Pamela Prairie (William Premo); and her long-time partner, Wilfred Sauve.
Stella loved being a mother to her daughters and later enjoyed working at Ames department store then at the Bon-Ton department store until she retired in 2004.
In recent years. Stella enjoyed tending her gardens, crocheting and embroidery, and doing puzzles. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and her partner.
In addition to her daughters, Stella is survived by five grandchildren; four step granddaughters, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US Highway 11, Potsdam, NY 13676.
