Maria Victoria Karpathy was born February 8, 1938 in Perkupa Hungary to Lajos and Maria Keller. Her father was lost in the war and youngest sister died at the age of 5. At the age of ten she almost lost her own life due to rheumatic fever. All this adversity cultivated a strong bond between Maria, her brother Lajos and their young widowed mother.

At the end of the 1956 Hungarian uprising, an 18 year old Maria, along with her husband, six month old son, her mother and brother fled their native country and emigrated to the United States. It was in New York City where she went to a vocational school and studied bookkeeping. When she became an American citizen she took on the middle name of Victoria and became Vicky in her new found home.

Victoria showed her strength in spirit and perseverance when she became a single mom and had to support her family. She continued learning and advanced in her career to become a comptroller at Agricultural Development Council, one of the Rockefeller Foundations. When the company moved to Arkansas she chose to relocate to Maryland to be near family and started her own business, a group home for Alzheimer patients. The business became Victoria Home. She came to love her new found calling and established a reputation for quality care in a setting that became home to her beloved residents. She came to think of them and their families as an extension of her own family.

Vicky loved the opera, politics, gardening and collecting porcelain. She was a proud American. She grew in faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior, and took much strength from it as she battled illness in her final weeks of life.

Vicky is survived by her son, Stephen Karpathy, his wife Edith, their four children and 8 grandchildren; her daughter Anita and husband Timothy, along with their three daughters and two grandchildren. Also her brother Lajos Keller and his wife Agnes and their adult children Angelika and Edward, their spouses and children.

The family will receive friends on November 3, 2017 from 1-2 PM at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville where funeral service will follow at 2 PM. Interment to take place at Monocacy Cemetery, 19801 W Hunter Rd, Beallsville, MD.
