Barnes, Mrs. Edna Earl (Polly) 95, died Saturday, April 4, 2009 in a Dallas hospital. A lifelong Dallas County resident, she was born March 14, 1914 to Lawrence B. and Deliah Best Standifer in Lancaster, Texas. Lovingly remembered as "Aunt Polly" by her family, she was a devout Christian, a member of Wheatland United Methodist Church and later of Kessler Park United Methodist Church. At Wheatland, she was a 1968 charter member of the Methodist Women's Society and was the church's financial secretary for 12 years. She also served on the church's official board and on several committees. At Kessler Park she was a member of the church's Good Shepherds and the United Methodist Women of Christian Service. Polly spent the last six years of her life at Grace Presbyterian Village in Dallas. She participated fully in the retirement community's religious services and social activities. She contributed generously to Grace, including the gift of a Steinway Grand Piano. She often expressed deep affection for fellow residents and staff at Grace, saying she felt blessed to find such a warm and caring atmosphere in which to live surrounded by loving friends. Polly was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Barnes, who died in 1989, her parents, her sister, Dora Juanita Mousner and her brother Lawrence B. Standifer. She is survived by a nephew, James L. Mousner and wife Della of Houston, and niece, Mrs. Ann Wickline of Bellevue, Washington, two great nieces and five great nephews. A family graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 8, at 2:00 p.m. at Laurel Land Memorial Park with viewing from 1:00 to 1:45 at Laurel Land Funeral Home. There will be a memorial service at 3:00 pm at Grace Presbyterian Village, 550 East Ann Arbor, Dallas, Texas 75216.
