Governor of Montana. Born Judy Morstein, she served as the 22nd Governor of Montana from January 1, 2001 to January 1, 2005. She attended Eastern Montana College (now Montana State University Billings). She competed in the 1964 Winter Olympics in the 1500 meters speed skating event. She also excelled in rodeo and was Miss Rodeo Montana in 1962. She started her political career as a field representative for Sen. Conrad Burns. She later ran, with her husband Harry, a garbage disposal service in Butte, Montana. In 1996 she was elected, on the Republican ticket with Marc Racicot, lieutenant governor of Montana and served in this position until 2000. In 2000 she ran for the governorship and was successful in defeating Democrat Mark O'Keefe in the general election that year. She served as the governor for four years before deciding not toseek re-election in 2004. After leaving office, she served on several boards . She passed away after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
