Arthur Vernon Olson, age 93, originally of Clinton, WI, died Friday, October 27, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center, in Ashland. He was born February 28, 1924, in Beloit, Wisconsin, the son of August and Myrtle (Knutson) Olson.He graduated Valedictorian of Clinton High School class of 1942 and later attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, until he was drafted into the Armed services. Arthur "Art" served in the US Army, during the occupation of Japan, from 1945 to 1949. He then continued in the Reserves for another five years. He married Laurel Mildred Burn on May 23, 1952 and settled south of Clinton with his family, where he lived most of his life. Before he was married, he did cattle, chicken, and grain farming, with his father and uncles. After he was married, he and his wife moved to Grandview, WI, where he owned a small grocery store. Later he moved back to Clinton, where he owned his own business selling and installing carpet, linoleum, and tile, for over 30 years. In 1988, he and his wife moved to northern Wisconsin and then moved to Park Falls, WI, in 1999. They lived there until December of 2016. He continued working part time installing flooring and then later worked for the Park Service, prior to retiring at the age of 90. They have been living the past ten months, in Ashland, WI, going between two of his daughters and the home of his son. Art was born an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting. He spent many years with his maternal uncle, with whom he was very close friends, fishing, farming and more. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed family reunions, with his extended relatives. He was a lifelong member of Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church, in Bergen, WI. Art's loss will be deeply felt. He is survived by his wife, Laurel of 65 years; his daughters, Anita (David) Mitchell, Barbara (Kirk) Anderson, Janis Ingebretson, Nancy (Terry) Pfeiffer; a son, John Olson; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several cousins. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, in Ashland, with Pastor Dale Chesley officiating.
