Robert “Bob” Bruce Pinkerton, 79, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Bob was born January 31, 1938 to Robert and Ida (Coleman) Pinkerton in Adair County. He spent his childhood in Greenfield and Creston before moving to the Altoona area, where he lived for most of his life.

He and his wife, Jo Anne (Custer) were married for 57 years and raised three children together.

Bob was a longtime owner of Pinkerton Sandblasting and Painting.

He enjoyed reading, archery, hunting, and raising and exhibiting poultry.

Those left to honor Bob’s memory include his loving wife, Jo Anne; children, LeeAnn Ammons and her husband, Darrel, David Pinkerton and his wife, Nancy, and Dan Pinkerton and his wife, Kendra; grandchildren, Meghan (David) Dunlap, Joshua (Carine) Ammons, Melissa Pinkerton, Owen Pinkerton, and Mirabel Pinkerton; great-grandchildren, Jasmine Dunlap, Jenah Wolf, Christian Dunlap, Adeline Dunlap, and Synneva Ammons; siblings, Mary Pinkerton, Richard Pinkerton and his wife, Anita, and Anna Richards and her husband, Frank; sister-in-law, Marjorie Pinkerton; and a host of other loving family and numerous beloved friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Minnie Leeps and George Pinkerton.

In remembrance of Bob, family will greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Capitol Hill Christian Church, 3322 E. 25th Street, Des Moines where Bob and Jo Anne attended regularly.

Per his request, his body was graciously donated to Des Moines University with a private memorial to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mercy Home Hospice, 411 Laurel Street, Suite 2250, Des Moines, Iowa 50314 or American Cancer Society, Iowa Chapter, 1717 Ingersoll Ave #111, Des Moines, IA 50309 in loving memory of Bob.
