Rick was born to the late John Holtz Sr. and Clara (Kokett) Holtz, in Little Falls, MN. Rick was the eighth of 12 children. He married Barbara Noyes in 1981 and they spent 35 years together.

Rick was an avid hunter and fisherman and will be remembered for his love of the outdoors. Many of his fall days were spent hunting, including multiple trips to Wyoming to hunt for elk. One of his hobbies was raising deer, something he did for many years.

Though many referred to him as Rick, those he adored the most knew him as "Papa". His grandchildren were truly the light of his life and there was little that made him happier than spending time with them. He enjoyed many activities with them such as anything from playing on the floor, to throwing a football or taking them fishing.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Barb of Little Falls; son, Ryan (Chelsea) Holtz of Foley; daughter, Angela (James) Waddell of Sartell; grandchildren, Mason, Aiden, Elise, Kennedie, Brock and Zoey; Brothers, John Holtz Jr., Gerard (Darlene) Holtz, Mike (Sue) Holtz, and Marty Holtz; sisters, Ann (Carroll) Schmidtknecht, Mary (Doug) Gwost, Betty (Joe) Schumacher, Terri (Joe) Pickar, Joan (Pat) Mackedanz, Sue (Denny) Heath, and Kathy (Curt) Robbins; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Clara Holtz and father-in-law, Kenneth Noyes.
