Family name was Lam or Lamb. Josiah Sylvester Lam(b) was the oldest son of Alva Anderson Lam and Jane Graham-Lam. He was born December 24, 1827 at Princeton on Paint Rock , in Jackson County, Alabama. Between 1830-1837, his family moved to Bedford County TN where he met and married Sarah Elizabeth Blackwell in 1845; daughter of Peter Blackwell and Lydia Padgett. At least 2 children born here; Thomas Jefferson Lam 1846 and Lydia J Lam 1848. Family history differs: One account, the family moved to Coryell County, Texas and while Sarah Lam was bringing water to Josiah working in the field, Indians raided the home, crushing the children's heads before setting the home afire. Josiah's hands were severely burned and drawn. Josiah and Sarah moved from Texas to Greene County, MO where her brother, Sylvester Blackwell lived. They also lived in Arkansas. Later they returned to Coryell County, where they lived at Cowhouse Creek. Josiah enlisted January 30, 1864 in the Civil War, served for the 2nd Frontier District. Another account shows the children were killed in Arkansas. 1850 Census Crawford County, Arkansas shows the family living there. The parents left to investigate a report of an Indian raid, leaving the children at home. While they were gone, the house burned and the children died. While in Arkansas, two other children were born; Mary Margaretta in 1854, Louisa Ann in 1855 (she apparently died when she was very young) and Mary Elizabeth in 1857 (born while living in MO). Sometime after 1860, they came to Coryell County, TX. They had 3 children here: Peter Sylvester 1861, Sarah Rebecca 1863 and Alva Anderson 1865. Apparently, Sarah Blackwell Lam died sometime after the birth of Alva. Some records indicate she died about 7 years after he was born; some records say sooner. Some family records state that she was buried in Flint Cemetery, Coryell County. Sarah Lam was a skilled doctor and midwife. After her death, Josiah and family left Coryell County and moved to Big Creek, Sebastian County, Arkansas. He met and married a widow woman, Eliza Anderson Thomas in 1869. She had 3 children: Millard Fillmore Thomas 1858, Letha Tennessee 1863, Martha 1864 and Dora (died young) 1865. These dates may not be totally accurate. Josiah and Eliza Lam had 3 children together that I am aware of: Josephine (Josie) Lam Collins 1872, Walter Cornelius Lam 1874 and Lourie Lam McNeill? 1880. Josiah Lam owned an 160 acre farm at Oakmound, near Dora, Ozark County, MO. His son Alva A. Lam (Sarah Blackwell Lam) died here in 1882 from seizures after being kicked by a horse or mule. Eliza Anderson Thomas Lam died on January 24, 1897 and Josiah Sylvester Lam died on February 8, 1897. According to family history, they were all buried at Lamb Cemetery on Josiah Lam's property. FindAGrave has the cemetery recorded as Croney Cemetery. Several members of the Croney family are buried here also. The cemetery has no photos and I'm guessing it is on private property. Requests have been put in for photos, so hopefully, someone will go there.
