Naomi Rogene Hardy
Who was Naomi Rogene Hardy (Armstrong), a farm girl, an educator, a wife, a mother, a city founder, or the savior of her church?
Born on 1/22/1936 in Western Illinois to a coal miner and farmer Walter Armstrong and homemaker Isabelle Armstrong, Naomi always defied convention. She, I believe, always had an ornery spirit as when being given an injection at age 5 socked the MD right off of his stool chair, she always liked to tell that story over the years. As she got older she was known as the student and was valedictorian of her High School graduating class thus earning herself a scholarship to the teaching college, Western Illinois University where she earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees by age 24. She strongly believed in educating the next generation. Additionally she was a founder of the city of Shoreline and saved Blessed Sacrament Parish by personally raising over 1 million dollars to pay down a construction debt caused by the 2001 Nisqually earthquake.
She was predeceased by her husband Rene Joseph Hardy Jr. She is survived by sons Greg and Steve as well as her three granddaughters Alicia, Jessica, and Kyllie, and sisters Sally and Penny, Naomi was buried at Holyrood Cemetery in the Mausoleum next to Rene.
