Darrell L. Beard, 64, of Gordonville died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 29, 1940, in Bollinger County, Mo., son of William W. "Bill" and Melba L. Jackson Beard. He and Kay D. Jacobs were married Dec. 26, 1963. She died July 19, 1993. He and Anne Evans were married May 29, 1994.

Beard was formerly of Cape Girardeau and St. Louis. He was a pipefitter many years with Pipefitters Union in Decatur, Ill. He had operated D.L. Beard Backhoe Service since 1985. He was a member of Excelsior Masonic Lodge 441 in Jackson.

He served in the National Guard from 1963 to 1969.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Bobby Cain of Los Angeles, Calif.; two stepsons, Trey Chiles of Gordonville, James Chiles of Fruitland; his mother of Jackson; a brother, Jim Roberts of Fountain, Fla.; two sisters, Barbara Mackey of Cincinnati, Ohio, Bernice Welch of Ash Flats, Ark.; and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins, Bill Worley and Pat Jett officiating. Burial will be in Zion United Methodist Cemetery at Gordonville.
