He moved from Mississippi to Navarro County, Texas were he married Dixie Rena Clayton on Dec 16, 1880. They moved with their 7 children to Tamaulipas, Mexico in the Tampico area in 1902. He established a ranch, "La Hacienda El Caracol" which still had family living there in 1980. He and his son, Joe McDonald Reid are buried there. His wife and other children are buried in Texas. Several times during the 1913-1919 Mexican Revolution era they had to evacuate to Texas along with many other American ranchers and businessmen in Tampico. He died of at the age of 85. His wife died in 1944 while in San Antonio, TX. His son Joe died in 1960 in Tampico. Infant son Irivn died in 1902 a few months after their arrival in Mexico. Of his four daughters: Hazel was killed in an auto accident in Texas in 1927. Mabel died in Seguin, TX in 1961. Rene died in 1972 in San Antonio and Laura died in 1980 in Harlingen, TX. His son Matt F. graduated from Peacock Military College in San Antonio in 1913. His death and burial have not been documented but likely he died before 1927 because he is not mentioned as a survivor of his sister Hazel in her obituary.
