Lillie Mae James was the daughter of the late Thomas and Pearl Ham Perkins and born in Florence County. She departed her life Thursday, October 26, 2017. She attended Florence County Public Schools. She was united in holy matrimony with the late Deacon Ray Maxie James on November 2, 1946. To this union five children were born, and a niece later joined the family. At an early age, she accepted the Lord and was baptized at Savannah Grove Baptist Church and is noted as a life-long member of this church. She was a Deaconess, choir member, musician, missionary, and served actively until her health declined. She was a member of Mary Perkins Chapter #292 of the Order of the Eastern Star for over fifty years where she served as Associate Matron and various other positions. She was employed at Savannah Grove Baptist Church as an Office Manager, Savannah Grove Elementary School as a teacher's assistant and worked in local private industries. She and her husband Ray, were the proud owners and operators of James Grocery for many years.
