Ronald L. Fletcher, Sr.

AGE: 87 • Winchester, VA

Ronald Lee Fletcher, Sr. of Middle Road, Winchester, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017. Born in Springfield, Ohio on March 3, 1930, he was the eldest son of the late Opal (Nesmith) Fletcher and Ernest T. Fletcher. He attended Stephens City (VA) High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and, following his honorable discharge, Ron moved to New Jersey where he met and married Joan Marie Tomford. Together they launched Franklin Business Machine Co. in Somerset NJ and had three children who survive him: Rhea (John Lease) Park of Clear Brook; Ronald (Linda) Fletcher, Jr. of Jackson, NJ; and Barbara (Roger) Ward of Trumansburg, NY. Ron was active in many civic organizations: he was a member, director and eventually president of the Franklin Chamber of Commerce; president of the Somerset NJ Lions Club, lifetime member of American Legion Post 0478 and member of Loyal Order of Moose (Bound Brook NJ Lodge 988). On May 4, 1975, Ron married Bessie E. Smith (d. 2002), and together they enjoyed travel, bowling and their family and friends, residing in Spotswood, NJ. Ron closed the doors to Franklin Business Machines and, in 2008, returned to Winchester.

In addition to his parents, Ron was predeceased by a brother, Robert Fletcher. Ron is also survived by special friend Ellie Schutt, brothers Dr. Richard Fletcher of San Antonio, TX and Larry Fletcher of Lincolnton, NC; grandchildren Dr. Rachel (Cory) Carlson of Winchester; Nicholas (Sabrina) Cabrera of Endwell, NY; Jacob (Kristin) Park of Emmaus, PA; Ryan Fletcher, of Jackson, NJ; Connor Fletcher of Jackson, NJ; Jessica (William) Hardy of Ovid, NY; Elizabeth (Chad) Cooley of Trumansburg, NY; Kathleen (Dana) Goodman of Romulus, NY and 13 great grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, November 10 from 10:00-11:00a at Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory, Capon Bridge, WV, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life. Graveside services will follow at Ebenezer Church, 2158 Ebenezer Church Rd, Gore, VA 22637. Friends and family are invited to gather at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2077 N. Frederick Pike, Winchester, VA, following the graveside service.
