He retired after almost 20 years from the Vinton County Highway Department as a dedicated heavy equipment operator.
Herb is survived by his daughter, Annette Remy of Jackson; grandson, Wesley Remy; brothers, John L. Maxwell Jr. of Albany, Jerry (Kim) Maxwell of Chillicothe, and Leroy Seeley Maxwell of Wheelersburg; half brother, Robert (Kelly) Maxwell of McArthur; half sisters, Bonnie Wells of Circleville, Marilyn Day of McArthur, Diane Easterday of Chillicothe, Linda Maxwell of McArthur and Angie Maxwell of Chillicothe; longtime friend and companion, Joyce Reynolds of Jackson and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Maudie Marie Brown Maxwell; brother, Ricky Maxwell; brother-in-law, Buddy Easterday and grandson, Richard W. Cartwright II
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur.
