John spent many hours fishing on the Lester river and the BWCA and hunting with his brothers and son Joe. He owned Arrowhead and Center Bottle Shops before working for Fleming Foods.
He loved his grandchildren but health issues limited activity with them. He loved working crossword puzzles, drinking cherry Coke and going to Bridgeman's for ice cream with his brother Bob.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Tom.
He is survived by his children: John "Joe" Jr., Amanda (Michael) Pfau, and Jessica Hoyt; grandchildren Tyler, Anika, and Callan; a great-grandchild; the mother of his children, Carmine Bambenek; and brothers: Bob (Bobbi), and Bill (Debra).
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery next to Tom and his parents.
