John Joseph Hoyt Sr., 71, a lifelong Duluthian passed away on Tuesday Oct. 24, 2017. John was born the second of four sons on March 17, 1946, to Robert and Loretta Hoyt. John graduated from Duluth Cathedral High School class of "64 and attended UMD. While in high school he played football and was selected All State Football guard. John also played the violin but his artistic love was his painting. Whether using oils, acrylics or watercolors, he created some amazing scenic pictures.
John spent many hours fishing on the Lester river and the BWCA and hunting with his brothers and son Joe. He owned Arrowhead and Center Bottle Shops before working for Fleming Foods.
He loved his grandchildren but health issues limited activity with them. He loved working crossword puzzles, drinking cherry Coke and going to Bridgeman's for ice cream with his brother Bob.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Tom.

He is survived by his children: John "Joe" Jr., Amanda (Michael) Pfau, and Jessica Hoyt; grandchildren Tyler, Anika, and Callan; a great-grandchild; the mother of his children, Carmine Bambenek; and brothers: Bob (Bobbi), and Bill (Debra).

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery next to Tom and his parents.
