Dr. Harold Ray Goodwin Sr., 93, was born in Tulsa, OK on August 14, 1924 to John and Zora Goodwin and passed away, peacefully, on October 27, 2017. He graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1940. On November 7, 1943 he married Peggy Louise (Kelley) Goodwin. Ray enlisted in the US Navy where he became a dive bomber pilot and was stationed in Wildwood NJ. and saw duty off a carrier in the Pacific Theatre. Upon completing his service, they moved to Memphis, TN where Ray attended Southern College of Optometry and began their family of three children. Ray and Peggy were always active in the First Christian Church where they were Deacons and Elders. Ray was a member of Rotary International and sang in the church choir as well as being a member of a Barber Shop Quartet. Upon his completion of his degree, they moved to Sulphur, OK where he established his Optometry practice and later became Mayor of Sulphur. They remained there until his retirement in 1999. He sold his practice and he and Peggy moved to Edmond, OK to enjoy their retirement. Ray is preceded in death by his wife Peggy, one son Harold Ray Goodwin Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Sally Peterson and husband Rex Peterson of Madison, WI, and his son Michael Goodwin and wife Connie Goodwin of League City, TX, three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. The family are granting Ray’s wishes to have a private celebration of his life with just family.
