Katherine Johnson Dahl, 91, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on May 9, 2005. She was born November 13, 1913 in Columbus, NM to Zeno and Margaret Johnson. She spent her youth in Columbus and Tucson, arriving in Phoenix as a young girl. She graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1931. When she was 19 her mother took her on an open house tour of the new A.L. Moore and Son mortuary which was paying a quarter to every visitor. While there she met the handsome young mechanic, Richard Dahl, who gave her a ride home in the company's little Austin car.
Dick and Katherine were married in the LDS Mesa Temple on September 21, 1934 starting an eternal companionship that has blessed many lives. Last year their family gathered to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. An original member of the Phoenix 3rd Ward, she served as president of the Relief Society and of the Primary and in many other callings. She served a mission with her husband in the Phoenix Mission, as office staff, one of the first couples to serve a full time mission while living at home. She was a Temple Worker and also worked many years with LDS Social Services.
Most of all she was a wonderful mother and grandmother whose sharp intellect and keen memory allowed her to keep close track of her family (which presently numbers 93), her extended family, and her many friends. She took loving care of Richard and everyone who ever visited or lived at their home.
She is survived by her husband, Richard, of Phoenix; six children, Richard Jr. (Judy) of Phoenix, Sue (David) Robinson of Gilbert, Robert (Sue) and Linda (Pat) Hendrix of Denver, CO, Charles (Kim) of Provo, UT, and Daniel (Michelle) of Gilbert; 26 grandchildren (15 married) and 38 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, May 13 from 6 to 8 pm at the Phoenix Central Ward Chapel, 47 East Ashland, Phoenix. Services will be held at 11 a. on Saturday, May 14th at Phoenix Central Ward Chapel with viewing one hour prior. Arrangements, Hansen Mortuary
