Anglican Archbishop of Armagh, Primate of All Ireland. He served in this position from January 1795, succeeding Richard Robinson (1st Baron Rokeby), until his death. Following his education at Abingdon School in his hometown, he attended Pembroke College, Oxford, then Hertford College, Oxford, graduating with a Master's Degree in 1753 and a Doctorate Degree in 1765. He was elected a Fellow of Hertford College in 1753, and afterwards served as Vice-Principal of Hertford College. In 1766 he went to Ireland as chaplain to Francis Seymour-Conway, 1st Marquess of Hertford, and was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. His other posts include Bishop of Dromore (1766 until 1775), Bishop of Ossory (1775 until 1779), and Bishop of Waterford and Lismore (1779 until 1795), He died at the age of 70 and was succeeded by William Stuart.
