George Franklin Bish was born March 26, 1918, in Strattanville, Pennsylvania, to Foster F. and Jenny (Martz) Bish. He passed from this life early Thursday, January 9, 2003, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 13 days, following a lengthy illness. George grew up in Pennsylvania, and enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in China, India, Japan and Burma. Among the many awards and decorations he received were the Meritorious Unit Award, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Word War II Victory Ribbon and the Army Occupation Medal (Japan). After his discharge he returned to his job at LEF & C Railroad and was a conductor for 35 years. He and the former Twila K. Kimes were married in Sligo, Pennsylvania on September 4, 1948. They moved to Anadarko from Waterson, Pennsylvania in January, 1978, following George's retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, The Railroad Trainmen, and Indian City Lions Club. He loved to fish and travel, and was an avid OU football fan, attending all the games he possibly could. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, and an infant son, George., Jr. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Gary Bish and his wife Judy of Struthers, Ohio, and James Bish and his wife Doris of Anadarko; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, including grandson J. R. Bish and his wife Shaneeka and their daughter Alyssa, and granddaughter Jamie Bish and her daughter Kaylee, all of Anadarko; 3 sisters, Mary Jane Miller & husband Chester of Danville, Ohio, Olive Morrell & husband of Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania, and Alma DeRose Bish of Brookeville, Pennsylvania; 6 brothers, William Roy Bish & wife Yvonne of Corsica, Pennsylvania, Millard Lee Bish & wife Anne of Brookville, Pennsylvania, Willis Bish & wife Norma of Brookville, Harry John Bish & wife Kay of Brookville, Darrell Bish & wife Doris of Campbell, New York, and Henry Clyde Bish & wife Patricia of Clarion, Pennsylvania; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, good neighbors and loving friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 13, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Monty Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Lane Cemetery under the direction of Steverson Funeral Home.
