Dr. Harold R. Wortman, 75, Williamsburg, passed away Thursday, January 9,
2003 at his home.
Harold served in the Air Force as a Chaplain's assistant. He received a BA
from Sterling College, Kansas and a MA and an EdD from University of Northern
Colorado. Harold has been a music educator since 1951 teaching in Kansas and
Iowa public schools at Sioux Falls College, South Dakota and was appointed
head of the music department at Cumberland College in 1966. Since he has been
in Williamsburg he's been active with the Fine Arts Association of
Southeastern Kentucky; choir director at Pineville Baptist Church for 25
years; and was a past president and received the Recognition of Distinguished
Service Award from the Kentucky Music Educators Association. He retired from
Cumberland College in 1993. Harold was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the
Corbin Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Wortman; two children, Christine Wortman of
Lexington and Sharon Cates of Louisville; two grandchildren, Darcy and Erin
Cates of Louisville; two brothers, Allen Wortman of Mankato, Minnesota and
Verne Wortman, Jr. of Meadville, Pennsylvania; also several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 13 at the Corbin Presbyterian
Church with Rev. Paul Henschen officiating. Burial was in the Croley Addition
Highland Park Cemetery.

Harold Wortman Memorial Department of Music Fund.
