Our beloved mother and grandmother, Marilyn Janet Smith Hicks, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 in Salt Lake City.

Marilyn was born in Salt Lake City to Ralph Wellington Smith and Rachel Lucy Doner Smith on June 22, 1929. She graduated from West High School, attended the University of Utah, and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

At the U. of U., Marilyn met Harry Glenn Hicks, whom she married on June 9, 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1972.

Marilyn was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She volunteered many hours of community service through PTA, Assistance League of Salt Lake City, and Mothers of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Marilyn also served on the national board of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

Marilyn was a talented seamstress and artist. She loved to create landscape and still life paintings and drawings. She also had a passion for flowers. Marilyn's family was always her first priority.

Marilyn and Harry were blessed with four children, thirteen grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Harry Hicks; and survived by her children, Deborah (Jim) Moore, Guy (Susan) Hicks, Claudia (Armand) Binkhuysen, and Becky (Brian) Vinchur; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Marilyn will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel , 3401 South Highland Drive (1450 East), with a viewing one hour prior. An evening viewing will be held at the same location on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00.
