Elmer served in the Idaho Army NG 139th Engineer Battalion and was called to active duty at Fort Lewis, Washington in the fall of 1961 for the Berlin Crisis (Berlin Wall). He returned to work at the Bower feedlot in the Sunny Slope area north of Marsing and worked there until 1975, when he left to pursue his passion for motorcycles. He valued the hundreds of relationships he made while working 20 years at Honda of Caldwell. In 1996 he started his own motorcycle repair shop at home, retiring in 2005.
Elmer enjoyed working on and riding motorcycles. He was actively involved in his sons’ motocross, cross country and flat track races. Many riders benefited from his presence at the tracks and he was often seen fixing a rider’s motorcycle before one of the many races at Owyhee Motorcycle Club at Peaceful Cove and at the flat track races in Caldwell. He watched every NASCAR race and was a devoted fan of Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr.. Elmer was a talented woodworker and an accomplished handyman.
Elmer is survived by his wife Shirley; four children: Jerri Rae Klobas, Charles “Chuck” (Kathy) Moore, Zonia (Doug) Allen, Jerry Lee Moore; his brothers Larry and Albert (Carol); ten grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Stan and brother-in-law Charles “Chic” Tveidt.
